The Honors recipients are recognized for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts—whether in music, dance, theater, opera, motion pictures, or television—and are confirmed by the Executive Committee of the Center’s Board of Trustees. The primary criterion in the selection process is excellence. The Honors are not designated by art form or category of artistic achievement; the selection process, over the years, has produced balance among the various arts and artistic disciplines. Recommendations for Honorees are solicited from the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees, the artistic community, and the general public. This year’s selected Honorees were chosen based on the recommendation of the Center’s Special Honors Advisory Committee, which is composed of Kennedy Center leadership, Trustees, artistic partners, and past Honorees. These individuals play a critical role in the evaluation and selection process and the Kennedy Center is indebted to them for their involvement. How can I get tickets to attend the Kennedy Center Honors?
As a major fundraiser for the Center’s arts and education programs, tickets to the Honors are first made available to Kennedy Center donors. Can you tell me why the sound quality within the Opera House sometimes varies from show to show?
The overall performance experience for our patrons is of the utmost importance to us. ²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵÃâ·Ñ°æapp Opera House ranks among the top venues in the world acoustically, receiving warm and generous comments from performers and patrons alike. Additionally, when we have performances with amplified sound that are produced in-house, we have had good success. However, some touring productions have occasionally had difficulty with sound in this venue. Touring theater productions bring their own sound equipment and operators, which can be challenging with regard to audio clarity due to a variety of factors, such as a combination of audio equipment selections made for the overall tour (which are not venue-specific) as well as audio operator choices. We are actively taking steps towards enhancing our oversight of sound in relation to these productions to provide the best possible acoustical environment for our patrons. Is this performance appropriate for my child?
That depends on a parent's particular sensibility regarding the age and maturity level of the child in question. The performances we offer to patrons of all ages are as socially and morally edifying as they are entertaining to watch and enforcing any policy on age restrictions means little in lieu of a parent’s own judgment. What is your Policy on seating for "Late Arrivals"?
For most productions, late seating is not permitted during the performance. Monitors are available outside of the theater for late arrivals. You will be able to take your seat during the first intermission or break. Please plan your travel carefully, and leave extra time for traffic, parking, and walking to the theater. What should I expect during the performance?
For the performance, please remember to turn off all cell phones, pagers, watch alarms, or any other device that might make noise. Also, please unwrap any candies before the performance begins. Audience cues can often be taken from the house lights. If the lights are up, talking is permitted, if the lights are down, talking is discouraged.I lost an item while visiting the Kennedy Center, is there a "Lost and Found"?
