JM quote

“Max has made an indelible mark on modern drumming. His impact has been felt ever since his bebop drumming exploded off of the stage and out of stereo speakers. A tireless resource of power, he always found a way to connect his drums to the world, from bebop to hip hop.”

“We American jazz musicians of African descent have proved beyond all doubt that we’re master musicians of our instruments. Now what we have to do is employ our skill to tell the dramatic story of our people and what we’ve been through.”
